Robert Lockwood Jr.

Born in 1915, Robert Lockwood, Jr. has been playing music professionally
since he was 15 years old. Recently, in the last 20 years, the blues
world has recognized Lockwood’s contributions to the genre. He
holds 2 W.C. Handy awards, is a Blues Hall of Fame and Delta Blues Hall
of Fame inductee, holds two honorary doctorate degrees, both the cities
of Cleveland and Pittsburgh have an annual “Robert Lockwood Jr.
Day,” has a street named after him in Cleveland’s Flat District,
and has received a National Heritage Fellowship Award, presented by
Hillary Clinton. Although he is known as Robert Johnson’s only
stepson, having learned to play guitar from the legend, his own legacy
is very powerful influencing B.B. King among others. He still plays
12 strings extremely well, writes and tours regularly. His recent recording
on Telarc was well recognized by the voting members for the Handy’s
& Grammy’s.
