It may have taken Delbert McClinton 30 years to catch on with mainstream
audiences with his unique hybrid of blues, funk, and country, but he
has clearly arrived. Proof of his success came when McClinton won the
coveted Grammy Award for his 2001 release of Nothing Personal. Now with
more than a cult following, his latest release Room To Breathe will
surely be a major contender this year as he continues to bask in the
glory of his relatively new-found fame. Delbert recently went into the
studio in Nashville to record a duet with fellow Texas native, vocalist
Reneé Austin. The pair recorded “Pretend We Never Met”
for Austin’s debut on the Blind Pig label, Sweet Talk, which will
be released in September.
